The goal was to develop a CNC Foam Cutter in a budget of INR60, 000 with the goal of expediting the prototyping of unmanned aerial vehicles made in the Aero Club at BITS.

  1. Worked in a team of four that designed a 4 axis hot wire cutter using nichrome as a cutting element, with a resolution of 4 microns and adjustable workspace dimensions.
  2. Created a CAD model in CATIA to simulate the working of the machine.
  3. Performed stress analysis on the arms using FEA package in Solidworks to determine strength and stiffness by reporting component stress and deformations.
  4. Used linear stress analysis to analyse the performance of moving lead screws and ball bearings under dynamic loading.
